LAB #3 – Differential Leveling

Using differential leveling practices and appropriate field notes, run a level circuit around the traverse stations 1–9 in the vacant lot adjacent to Reed Hall. Use the benchmark of 500.000 feet located on the curb in the parking area.

A) Elevation of all traverse station nails with a minimum graduation of 0.001′. Complete the loop back to BM1 attaining a minimum of 4th order closure (see back of sheet).

B) Minimum clearance between the road surface and the crosswalk between Reed and Lloyd Cassity Hall using leveling techniques with a minimum graduation of 0.01′. Determine the clearance by finding the difference between the elevations of the road surface and crosswalk.

Results: The lab should include, in addition to normally required information, tabulated level notes (from field book), sample calculations for elevations, closure calculations, results and a drawing of the circuit.
