Discuss the poems “Here Follows Some Verses Upon the Burning of Our House…” and “On My Dear Grandchild Simon Bradstreet, Who died on 16 November, 1669…”
In your discussion explain the form of the poems: the meter, rhyme scheme, enjambment, stanzas, etc. and how these poetic techniques affect the meaning of the poem. Discuss as well the content of the poems: its themes, imagery, tone or emotional mood, any irony or sarcasm, etc.
Finally, explain how Bradstreet includes Puritan beliefs in these poems, as well as personal content, and discuss whether the poems also have more universal or generally human themes or tone.
