Political Science

Most political scientists agree that there is strong evidence that elected officials in Washington have polarized, with elected Democrats becoming more liberal and elected Republicans becoming more conservative in recent decades. It’s less clear, however, that ordinary citizens have become more polarized.
One of the leading scholars on the subject of political polarization is Professor Morris Fiorina of Stanford University. He presented a talk titled “The Myth of Partisan Polarization” in 2011. The video of this talk can be found here: https://youtu.be/Q8w9_M5VE1k.
In a paper of 3 to 5 pages (typed, double-spaced with 1 inch margins and an 11 or 12 point font), evaluate Fiorina’s argument and the evidence he provides in this video. Do you find his evidence convincing? If so, why? If not, why not? What do you think the future holds for partisan polarization among citizens in the United States?
