Power and Limits of Human Rights IOs (International organization)

During the course of the semester you will conduct an original research project. At the end of the semester you will submit a 17 to 20-page paper (not including charts, references, or appendices) and present the findings of your research to the class. You may choose a research topic of your choice related to international organization. For example, you may choose a particular organization, an international regime (issue area), an IO theory, or a problem the international community has not yet adequately addressed. Papers should be theoretical and analytical, applying the insights of course readings, and not just be descriptive. You are also required to submit a 2-3 page paper prospectus on March 4th. This should include a description of your research topic, as well as a preliminary list of at least 8 sources (single spaced). All papers should have 1 inch margins, Times New Roman 12 pt. font, double-spacing, and page numbers. You are required to include at least fifteen academic sources, of which five must be books. For proper citation guidelines, refer to an academic political science journal or websites describing Chicago or MLA styles. You will turn in a hard copy in class on the due date, as well as submit a word document electronically to me by email. You will make a presentation to the class about your paper.
