Assessment 3: Literature critique

The purpose of this assessment is to engage with current literature and within your specialty.
You are required to:
• explore one issue/theme that interests you from within the content of the Learning Guide Covering Themes 1 – 3.
• be mindful, when you critique an article you are not just summarising the text and re-stating what the author has said, you are analysing, interpreting and evaluating the text.
Choose one original research article that reflects the topic you have chosen. This article must be submitted with your paper. You are expected to refer to further readings to support/oppose your discussion.
This is to be presented in standard essay form.
In your critique:
• Your paper should open with a discussion of the main theme, idea or management strategy addressed by the author and the specific problem that is being tested or examined.
• Give a brief description of the methods of investigation used to address the main theme, idea or management strategy. Comment on these. Do you see any shortcomings or problems with the research strategies/techniques used?
• Did the findings answer the question that the author sets forth? Was the presentation of the data clear and convincing? Did you see any problems or inconsistencies with the way the data was analysed or interpreted?
• Comment on the conclusions/recommendations from the article in relation to the chosen theme or issue. Relate this to cardiac nursing care within your clinical context (this is where other supportive documents can be integrated).
