presentation of Andragogy

Reflecting on this presentation of Andragogy drove me to contemplate about how much the study of andragogy is needed today. Today, due to the negative economic

circumstances alone, we see how the number of adult learners has increased tremendously. The economic down turns have literally force adults, due to unemployment, to

go back into the classroom so that they can be more competitive in today’s job market. One can say that study is absolutely imperative for leaders and educators in

higher education so that they can have a sound understanding of how adults learn and perceive certain subject matters to be most effective in their professions and to

meet the demand needed for this target market.
Taking into account the prior experience of the adult learner, I found most relevant as well. While receiving my masters as an adult learner, I realize that the

experience I learned working in the field first assisted me in the comprehension of the materials taught. Being exposing to real life scenarios has allowed me to

develop my own perspectives which makes me more engaged and appreciative of material taught. Younger learners, for the most part, do not experience this value in

having experience which can sometimes lead to a disinterest and devaluing of material that is paramount for their success for future aspirations. So far this gives a

substantial edge to the adult learner. Another point that was mentioned that exemplifies in which I would say the essence in understanding why there are adult

learners, even though relevant with younger learners, is the Hermas theory, that everyone has different needs and interest in life that drives them to acquire
