Read about the American Psychological Association’s (APA) work to support the Minority Health and Education Act of 2000 by reading the April 2010 Public Policy Update on the APA Web site (linked in the Resources). The APA has worked to educate legislators about the role psychological and behavioral factors play in health.
Review the APA Web site (linked in the Resources), and select a public policy issue or initiative that impacts your work life related to health psychology or workplace stress. Write a brief summary of the efforts of the APA and find an article from the literature that is connected to the issue or initiative you select for your summary. Explain why this issue is important, what the APA’s stance is on the issue, and what you would suggest as a new research study to provide further information on your topic. For example, in a recent APA newsletter, the need for organizations to focus on the needs of employees was discussed. How might an article such as this lead to future research? How is it connected to health psychology and stress management? In what type of public policy arena, might the Public Policy Office of the APA use research such as a study you are proposing?
