your assignment is an application assignment. The purposes are to apply the week’s material to a specific population and to practice researching information from academic journals.

First, select a population may be people with whom you have worked or expect to work in your professional career, or it may be people in whom you have a particular interest. Briefly (2-4

sentences) identify your population and why you chose it.

Write two to three paragraphs discussing how the week’s material applies to your population. You might discuss why the problem exists, which consequences are apparent, what (if any) public

health interventions are in place to address it, and how you would address it. If the week’s subject matter is not a significant public health issue in your population, discuss why not, and present

evidence to back up your assertion. For example, if the week’s topic is iodine deficiency, and you were especially interested in college-aged males, you might find data that demonstrates a high

intake of iodine-fortified foods – e.g., salt – and argue that college-aged males in the U.S. are not at risk for iodine deficiency. You might also find data stating the prevalence of iodine deficiency

in this group.

In your application assignment, please use information from, and cite, at least one article from a peer-reviewed journal. All of your sources should be reputable. Wikipedia is an example of an

unacceptable source. Your work should demonstrate that you have read and understood the week’s materials. Use APA format for your work.
