Racial Self-Determination and Separation (Lost Found Nation of Islam)

As discussed in class, the take home midterm requires you to write a 7 to 8 page paper discussing one or more of the dominant three themes: 1) civil rights/integration; 2) racial self-determination/separation; and 3) radicalism/revolution.

You are expected to discuss the theme or themes within the context of what you understand about the history, mission, issues, leaders, accomplishments and failures of the organization or overall movement. You are also required to share your own perspectives about the particular theme or themes as to whether or not you considered it or them a viable direction within the movement.

Each paper should be typed with font no larger than 12 on 8 ½ by 11 inches paper, doubled space. Your source materials should represent a combination of class notes, based on lecture and discussion, readings from the text, video citations, and handouts.

If you choose to use reference sources utilizing quotations and/or citations, please make certain that you document according to standard scholarly practices. I recommend that you consult The Chicago Manual of Style Online: Style Citation Quick Guide. It can be found at: www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools
