A. What, according to the traditional account of the life of the Buddha, was his final teaching before his death? What does it mean? Compare and contrast it with his teachings of the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path.

B. In what ways does the vast diversity of Buddhist scriptures reflect the basic differences (as well as the similarities) between Theravada and Mahayana Buddhism as it is practiced today (particularly with reference to Zen, Pure Land, Nichiren, and Tibetan Buddhism)? Use specific examples.

C. What, in your opinion, is the heart of Buddhism? Please choose only one theme that you believe represents the heart of Buddhism, describe in detail why this is the heart of the religion, and then support that argument with solid examples.
