In this last essay assignment, you are being asked to engage in a Rhetorical Analysis because close, systematic reading of texts is a skill you will need for your future college classes. Rhetorical Analysis is a crucial component of critical thinking, and being a skilled critical thinker will help you to make informed decisions in your educational, personal, and professional lives. While anything that can be analyzed and interpreted is a known as a text, this assignment calls for you to rhetorically analyze two print advertisements in order to assess what methods the marketers are using to persuade consumers and assess how effective their use of these methods are.

Prompt: Write a 1250 word Rhetorical Analysis of two print advertisements (ads must be for two different brands of the same product).
In your essay, your purpose is to:
Introduce readers to the concept of Rhetorical Analysis and what it reveals about persuasive techniques used in advertising.
Summarize and explain specific examples of HOW each print ad?s visual imagery and words demonstrate the rhetorical strategies of Ethos, Pathos, and/or Logos to persuade consumers in the target audience to purchase the product shown. You do not need to include all 3 strategies if not all 3 are present in the ad(s).
Assert in your conclusion which ad you feel is MOST effective and persuasive in its attempt to persuade consumers in the target audience to purchase the product shown based on your rhetorical analysis.

Audience: Your readers are people who suspect there is more to marketing and advertising strategies than they know, and they wish to learn more about rhetorical methods of persuasion used in ads so they can make informed decisions as consumers.
