wo ways that Egypt utilized in building their cities was geography and Natural Resources. Egypt Benefited by having the Nile River run into the Mediterranean Sea at the Nile Delta. This area had very fertile land to grow crops on. Since they were able to grow plenty of food, the cities would be in good supply all the time. Egypt’s Natural Resources were plentiful. They were lucky to have materials to make and sell and as a result, they were able to trade. Trading would bring more people and the cities would expand.

Mesopotamia had the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. These rivers were both a blessing and a curse for the cities. They would flood and be in a drought at times that were opposite the times they needed. The rivers would flood when the crops were ready to be harvested and ruin the harvest, and be in a drought when the crops needed plenty of water. Even with this issue. The Mesopotamians’ developed a way to harness this water and the benefits were rich fertile soils, plenty of water, and plenty of trade opportunities for trade and travel. Since Mesopotamia was in a well balanced climate, they benefited in lumber, including all the stones and minerals that Egypt would benefit from.

India benefited from the warm climate and the Indus Valley which provided the much needed fertile soils to be able to grow crops. The Natural Resources though not as much in lumber, did benefit from their share of metals and gems much like Egypt and Mesopotamia.

All of these four river valley civilizations had one main thing in common. Water was the deciding factor in many separate cultures to meet. Early civilization was nomadic, traveling from one place to another to trade their goods and their experiences. One culture would travel to another. Very early civilizations were self reliant until they began to trade and so they needed food. Water brought the agriculture then life was able to expand. That is why I believe that river valley civilizations were similar yet early on never met each other.
