Russian 19th Century Literature

Assignment: How do you understand the controversial protagonists and antiheroes? Examine their “mastermind” games, “duality,” hubris and self-pity, as well as the rivalry (duels) with other characters and readers, and even with the “authors.”

There doesn’t need to be a concrete introduction and conclusion because it’s one question from a take home final. You can use any work from any 19th Century Russian writer: Pushkin, Turgenev, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, or Gogol. Some of their works are War and Peace, Anna Karenina, Crime and Punishment, The Overcoat, The Nose, Eugene Onegin, The Queen of Spades, The Shot, The Blizzard, etc. Choose two characters – one from two different works and reference them while answering the question. If you know any other Russian 19th century works by these authors you can do it. Whatever you feel most comfortable with!
