Analyse the strategies used by Amazon to build and sustain competitive advantage. What are the strategic issues and options currently facing the organisation?
Conduct further research, using your own choice of desk-based sources, to deepen your knowledge of the context within which your chosen organisation is developing its strategy. Please do
not ask for ‘inside information’ from the organisation itself. Use the ‘Investor’ section of each website to obtain public information instead.
Then produce an academic report, analysing this data to answer the initial question. Note that you are required only to identify strategic issues and options, not to make recommendations
about what the organisation should do next.
Explain which theoretical tools you have chosen to use, and why and evaluate their usefulness.
Your report should be about 1500 words long which does not include bibliography, appendices, abstract or words in tables.
Your work should be handed in on Friday August 15th via Turnitin
Assessment Criteria
In order to pass this assignment, you must meet the following assessment criteria:
• You must address the question
• You must demonstrate a basic understanding of the relevant strategic theory
• You must use relevant data to illustrate and support your discussion
• You must include a few relevant strategic models
• You must include a bibliography at the end, using the Harvard system
• You must include a word count.
Work will be marked according to the following criteria:
• Use of appropriate data
• Effective use of data and diagrams
• Use of relevant theory
• Discussion – structure of argument, originality and critical analysis
• Presentation of report – writing style, length, referencing of data etc.
Higher marks can be achieved by:
• Addressing the question in more depth
• Structuring your arguments in a logical manner
• Demonstrating some originality
• Writing concisely, in fluent English, with few grammar or spelling errors
• Using more diagrams to support your arguments.
