Teaching Plan

The aim of this task is to enable you to show your understanding of the knowledges and skills needed to teach safe health practice to staff and/or clients in varying

contexts by developing clear teaching plans. Scenario are provided for you to contextualise such a plan (Part A), and then provide rationales for decisions made in

relation to these plans (Part B).

TASK: address both Part A & Part B of the assignment task.

Part A – Teaching Plan -500 words .
• Develop a teaching plan for your scenario using the given format.
• A bibliography only is required for your teaching plan using APA6 style.

Explanation of lesson Proforma-

CONTEXT
The context informs the teacher about the situation of teaching, certain elements of which will affect the delivery of the lesson.
These include
Venue: indicates the resources available eg bedside has limited resources for teaching a patient/client how to manage their asthma.
Number of learners/clients: indicates the resources that you will need to take to your venue and the formality of the teaching.
Learner/client characteristics: in particular age, level of education technology literate: this is important as it informs the teacher about the level of the

information required and the resources that may be able to be used, eg in educating a 25 yr man on administering insulin you may provide links to Youtube to support

the learning whereas in educating a 65yr old man, on the same phenomena, who is not computer literate you may provide literature/drawings to support the learning
Time available: this informs the teacher about the time for teaching, the depth of the information to be provided and extra resources needed to support the learning

LEARNING OBJECTIVES/OUTCOMES
The objectives/outcomes are the knowledge and skills to be met/obtained by the learner. Bloom’s taxonomy is a useful source in helping develop outcomes
Objectives/outcomes are described as behavior. For example:
By the end of the session the learner will be able to:
? Describe the biological changes that occur in the lungs of a person experiencing asthma
? Explain how to use an asthma puffer
? Identify triggers for their asthma
? Administer a medication intravenously (IV)
CONTENT
The content is the information that you will cover to ensure that your learners/clients meet the learning objectives/outcomes. These can be dot point listed in your

lesson plan.

RESOURCES
Those things that the teacher or learner may use to facilitate teaching or learning. For example:
discussion, literature handouts, lecture notes, DVDs, music, Equipment: lecture theatre, DVD player & TV, recordings, whiteboards, x-rays, pathology reports, wound

care equipment, IV therapy equipment

ASSESSMENT

Assessment and evaluation are undertaken to determine the effectiveness of the learning and teaching and may include such things as answering questions, demonstrating

skills, tests/quizzes, feedback from learners

BIBLIOGRAPHY is a list of all the literature that was read when preparing for the writing of the article/paper/essay. These articles do not have to be cited in the

text of the article/paper/essay.

Part B – Justification of Teaching Plan -2000 words
• Use the scholarly literature to explain and justify your Teaching Plan. Essay format is required in this section.
• Referencing- Part B requires substantiation with references using APA6 style.

You are a community nurse and required to teach your new client (Peter Singh, 70-years-old) and his partner Chris, how to manage and monitor his newly diagnosed

Criteria
Knowledge & Understanding (Part B): Critically discusses current literature to explain and justify context, learning objectives, lesson content, resources and

assessment.

Structure of Part B: Presents a clear introduction. There is a logical line of reasoning that gives direction to the writing. All issues are supported with relevant

literature. Conclusion is clear and relevant.

Teaching plan format: Logically constructed plan identifying all components.
Bibliography appropriate for the care plan.

Teaching plan content: Includes context, learning outcomes, session content, resources, and assessment.

Referencing (Part B): Presentation in accordance with School requirements including grammar, punctuation and spelling. Referencing consistently APA 6th Ed

part A you need only to include biplograph with no intext references but for part B you need at least 15 updated (not older than 5 years) including intext references.
