Term Project

Read the primary literature (Journal of Biological Chemistry, Biochemistry, PNAS, Cell, Nature, Science, etc.—high quality biochemistry or molecular biology journals) and think about how it relates to what you have learned in previous classes (biochemistry, biology, chemistry) and to what you are learning this semester.

I would like your assistance in finding papers that you think would be interesting/useful to use in teaching biochemistry that help to coalesce the concepts/information in the textbooks in an interesting way to you.

I would prefer that the papers be within the last 5 years.

The report should include the following:

1. A summary of the area in the book chapter that relates to your paper and what was most interesting to you. (1/3-1/2 page; 1.5 spacing, 12 font)—10 pts
2. A summary of your article and what new information was discovered–relate back to the book chapter (1/3-1/2 page; 1.5 spacing, 12 font)—10 pts

3. What was the hypothesis that the paper was trying to prove or disprove?—8 pts

4. What was the most pivotal piece of data to prove or disprove the hypothesis?—10 pts

5. Write two questions about the paper using knowledge based on the material in the chapter and the paper. This could be interpretation of an important set of data. (6 pts each, graded on quality and thoughtfulness of question). May be multiple choice, T/F, short answers or open-ended are appropriate—what kind of test questions would you like to see on exams?
6. Answer your questions. Explain why that answer is right and why the other answers are wrong.
