4. What were Alexander Hamilton’s economic policies and why were they controversial? Why did the US feel vulnerable to international threats during the 1790s, and
what led to the Alien and Sedition Acts in 1798? What resulted? What provoked the Whiskey Rebellion and what was the significance of the government’s response?

5. How did the civil status between men and women differ in the early Republic? Describe Thomas Jefferson’s republican vision and his successes and failures in
implementing it. Why did Congress declare war on England in 1812 and what resulted? (Chapter 10)
