Counseling Theory: The Clinical Theory Paper

This paper should be approximately 15 pages long, double-spaced, using one-inch margins and a 12-point font, and should
include references in APA format, including a reference page. Make sure you include page numbers when referencing in the
body of your paper. Refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association for information about
correct format; (Note: the exception we request to APA styling is that block quotes should be single spaced.)
Explore and address the dynamics of the “This Is Where I Leave You” family film through the lens of each of the five
primary theories:
• Bowenian Therapy (Judd’s sister Wendy)
• Structural Family Therapy (Older brother Paul)
• Solution Focused Brief Therapy (The youngest brother, Phillip)
• Narrative Therapy (Mother, Hillary)
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT) (Judd)
You can pick a character for each theory for therapy or if you would like to pick one also as family therapy. I put
suggestions next to them.
Your exploration for each theory should include:
• A brief summary of those primary elements considered to be of clinical relevance when viewed from the perspective of
that theory as expressed by this film family
• What your hypothetical intervention might entail if working clinically with this film family in the tradition of that
theory.
Your paper should also include:
• An introduction that includes a brief description of your relationship with this film and your reasoning for choosing
it to work with (I choice it because when my mom passed away a lot of issues came up for the family. I think you see a
lot truth when someone passes away.) Also I liked the way the family sibling got along. My sibling and I are not that
much in each other’s lives.
• A conclusion that includes how this exploration will inform your future clinical practice
• A reference page
• The synopsis and list of characters and dynamics as an appendix (attached)
