Organizations, Books by Parents, and Books by Peopie with Autism. There’s also a subject index at the end ofthe
book. The book functions as a handbook, and it’s organized by Frequently Asked Questions. its primary audience is
parents of children newly diagnosed as autistic. As for the author’s credibility, Hart has a brother and a son who are
autistic, and he is an ex-editor of/ldvocare, thejournal ofthe Autism Society of America, so he has intimate
personal knowledge and he’s likeiy very well-informed. (4: Usability} l~lart’s chapter on education should be a
useful starting point for research on different educational strategies for students with autism. It should provide the
reader with an easy-to-read, basic understanding ofthe learning challenges faced by children with autism. His lists
ofother resources may provide cortstructive leads. Because the book is over a decade old (it lists no publications
after I992), it may not reflect the most recent developments or ideas.
