The task is to conduct a communication audit of this group.

1.Critically analyse and assess the major theoretical perspectives relevant to communication within organisation.
2. Background of issue is to be comprehensive, but succinct.
3. Professional integration of research and theoretical perspectives.

Identify the various communication channels used by the organisation.

Then select ONE of those communication channels (EG: telephone, email) and conduct a thorough audit of the use of this one channel within the organisation.

This will require research to establish current use and patterns of use. You will need to analyse use of the communication channel within the organisation for at least two weeks in order to establish a pattern of use. Suggested channels include: email, telephone.

The audit MUST consist of this basic structure:

Introduction: Background to the organisation the channel chosen (and why), the goal of the audit and the target publics.

Data: This explains how the information was gathered.

Analysis: Includes identification of any issues or problems as a result of the audit.

Recommendations: Relates to each issue of problem identified. Recommendations must show a link between the data, analysis and recommendation. Recommendations must be consideration of the organisation and the target public and must be achievable and effective.

A communication audit is a comprehensive evaluation of an organization’s ability to send, receive and share information with various audiences within the organization as well at key constituencies outside, such as customers and investors, in the case of publicly-trade companies. This type of audit can be performed to evaluate an organization’s external or internal communication effectiveness. The purpose of a communication audit is to uncover the strengths and weaknesses between management, typically, and employees, customers and other groups such as investors, the news media, and regulators and legislative bodies with the objective to improve future communications by developing a strategic plan, through a series of recommendations, and to determine where gaps exists which need to be bridged .
