SECTION A: True or False (30 marks)
For each of the following questions, determine the truth of the statement in question. Then

‘If I stop smoking now, I would live for a longer period. If I live for a longer period, then I wo
uld be miserable for a longer period. I don’t want to be miserable for a longer period. So, I sh
ould continue smoking.’
This argument comprises 2 valid forms. Identify these forms and demonstrate how this argum
ent follows these forms.

Question 12
Consider the following two arguments.
(a) All alcoholics are vegetarian.
All vegetarians love animals.
Therefore, all animal lovers are alcoholics.
(b) All celebrities are arrogant.
No arrogant people are friendly.
Therefore, no celebrities are friendly.
Distinguish between the two arguments above by evaluating whether each one is valid.
