£5000
Telephone: 02380123456
Email:Pierre1@somewhere.com
3 Nowhere Gardens
Southampton

The newspaper is published on Friday 7th February. At 6pm that evening Natasha phones Pierre and says that she will buy the car for the full asking price if she can arrange a loan from her bank. Pierre says that he will give Natasha a week in which to raise the money and promises to hold the car for her until the following Friday.
At 7pm Andre sends an email to Pierre saying that he is prepared to buy the car for £4500. Pierre emails back at 7:15pm saying that he will not accept less than the full £5000. Andre emails again at 7:30 to say he will pay the full £5000 and collect the car the following Friday. Pierre, impressed with the amount of interest in the car emails to say the price is now £5500. Unfortunately Andre has left his house to go on holiday for a week and never reads that email.
At 10am the following morning Anatole calls at Pierre’s house and tells him that he is prepared to pay £5000 for the car. Pierre tells Anatole that he now wants £6000. Anatole says he will pay £5500. Pierre says that he will think about it and let Anatole know his answer soon. Anatole goes home. Later that day he leaves a message on Pierre’s answer machine saying he is now prepared to pay £5700 and that if he hears nothing more from Pierre he will pay for and collect the car the following Friday.
At 1pm the same day Sonja phones Pierre and says she is willing to pay The full £5000 asking price “and so the car is now mine, I will collect it on Friday”. In her excitement she hangs up the phone before Pierre can explain the situation.
At 3pm Nikolai calls at Pierres house and Pierre tells him that he would be prepared to sell the car for £6000. Nikolai says he will only pay £5500. Pierre says that is not enough. Nikolai leaves, but later leaves a message on Pierre’s answer machine saying he is now prepared to pay the full £6000 and will collect the car on Friday.
On Wednesday at 10am Ilya calls on Pierre and after examining the car says he is willing to pay £6000. Pierre accepts. Ilya says he will collect and pay for the car on Friday.
On Thursday Marya telephones Pierre and says she is willing to pay £6500 cash for the car if she can collect it later that day. Pierre says she is welcome to. Marya calls at the house at 4pm with the money and drives the car away.
On Friday afternoon at 5pm Andre, Anatole, Natasha, Sonja, Nikolai and Ilya all arrive at Pierre’s house claiming to have entered into a contract with Pierre which he must honour or pay damages for breach. Advise Pierre as to any liability he may owe in contract law to these people.
