Unpaid internships

 

This assignment is due in class on Week 13. Exact dates can be found on Blackboard in the course outline.
You are instructed to write a formal argumentative research essay in standard 5 paragraph format (Intro, body [x3], conclusion).
Final Draft is worth 20% of final grade.
Rough Draft is worth 10% of final grade.
Annotated Bibliography and Outline are each worth 10% of the final grade.
3 – 4 type-written pg., Stapled. 1.5 spacing. Arial, Size 12 font.
Standard Margins. Numbered pages.
You must include a minimum of 5 valid sources, with at least 2 being either books, newspapers, trade journals or academic journals.
All sources must be in proper APA citation style.
You must include a title page with the following:
Name, student #, class number, and, yes, a title.
You must also include a works cited page which lists your 5 (minimum) valid APA sources in alphabetic order.
**Title page does not count towards page count.
**Works Cited page does not count towards page count.
Content
Using unpaid interns in the hospitality industry is widespread in the GTA. Some spend a semester changing pot pourri and scrubbing floors. While many interns gained meaningful experience, others found themselves doing menial tasks for nothing. Some people argue that unpaid internships give students and new graduates a chance to ‘get their foot in the door’, whole others argue that companies are just getting free labour which amounts to nothing more than abuse.
Q: Do unpaid internships do more good or more harm? To whom? Why/why not?
