Watch the Academy Award-winning film, Boys Don’t Cry. (You can rent the DVD from a library or video store.) Then, determine whether the main character, played by Hilary Swank, is a man or a woman. Some things to consider: this essay will require external support for the definition of man or woman. The best resources may come from biologists and sociologists. You should use evidence from the film’s portrayal of Brandon Teena/Teena Brandon; do not compare and contrast the film’s interpretation with historical evidence about the actual murder victim.
