Why Young Adults Should Vote

Why Young Adults Should Vote
Order Description
take a specific stance on an important and timely topic and provide researched support.

Complete the Research Proposal Worksheet to find your focus and direct your research.

As a result of your research, you will answer the questions (or some variation on them) that you list on your proposal worksheet, and by answering these questions, you will arrive at a thesis and structure your argument.

In this paper, you will:

*Make a main claim (state a thesis): “Child safety locks should be required on all handguns in North Carolina.”

*Identify reasons (secondary claims) for why you and others should support or believe your main claim.

1) Child safety locks do not hinder use of handguns for self-defense.
2) Child safety locks are effective in saving children’s lives.
3) Child safety locks are easy-to-use, so people actually use them if they have them.

*Give researched evidence to prove each of your secondary claims.

Remember all of the qualities of effective arguments that we have discussed over the course of the semester: organization, tone, logos, pathos, ethos, avoiding fallacies, acknowledging counter-arguments, etc.

You will cite a minimum of seven sources in this paper.

(Side-note: By young adults, I’m trying to target 18-28 years of age.)
