Write an essay explaining women’s lives in America since Reconstruction. Specifically, address how women’s lives were shaped by the many changes going on in modern America, and explain also the ways that women responded to those changes in both the private and public spheres.
Be sure to specify historical contexts by frequently identifying the 4 W’s. Keep in mind, that I am most interested to see how well you have learned the material, including your ability to discuss both the big themes AND the historical details that support them. Accordingly, I’ll expect you frequently to utilize historical details — addressing the four W’s of who, what, when, and where — in support of your more general explanations and descriptions. • Remember, we have been careful to identify women by race, class, ethnicity, geography, and time period, so I expect you to do the same in your essay. Any essay that refers generically to “women” without identifying proper historical context (4 W’s) or race/class/ethnicity will receive much lower scores than those that do. Once you identify/explain a thematic development, then you should provide specific examples featuring events, people, places, dates, etc., the details. These details are the “facts” that support your analysis, prove that what you are saying is valid and reasonable. They also demonstrate your famliarity with the materials assigned. And you should demonstrate that you are familiar with both our assigned textbook readings and also lectures I attached.
