You will write a one-page essay summarizing an energy technology. You may choose any energy system. Your target audience for this essay is the general public. Your essay should summarize the energy technology. Your essay should also describe aspects that contribute to sustainability of your energy system as well as any negative impacts or unintended consequences. Examples of energy technologies and systems that you might write about include, PV which uses solar energy to deliver electricity, nuclear for electricity, corn used to make ethanol for liquid transportation fuels, Marcellus shale gas, offshore wind, etc. How you conclude your essay is up to you. For example, you might choose to conclude with recommendations for communities or companies, you might choose to conclude with future research needs, or you might choose to conclude with a call to action. You may include figures and tables as necessary, however the figures or tables must be of your own creation.
You should also seamlessly incorporate principles of ESEM into your paper (see the general writing rubric); you do not need to cite the principle number nor should you write out the entire principle. You should bold and italicize the text that you think refers to an ESEM principle.
Your essay should use TNR font size 12 with 1.5 spacing. Your paper (excluding references) should be not more than 1 pg in length.
