I have to start off by saying that there is so much legal lingo and information out there in regards to the rules and regulations of psychology especially in a state like mine, California. That being said it was a tricky situation to find out exactly how to handle a situation like Billy’s. After much investigation I found that Billy has the right to treatment and I am bound by confidentiality clauses. I personally as Billy’s psychologist believe it is in his best interest to allow him treatment without any further complications. Furthermore I find it admirable that at such a young age such as 12 can acknowledge that they have a problem and seek it out. Although I would definately encourage Billy to talk to his parents about his problems as I know communication is key, I would not let his unwillingness to do so stop me from helping him. Thank fully here in California we put a patients well being above all else.
