The Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965 has recently been in the news due to
the Supreme Court’s decision to rule unconstitutional sections of the law (Shelby County,AL v. Holder
(2013)). In this essay first explain why the VRA was passed by Congress in 1965 and renewed in 2006. Second, provide two arguments supporting the continued enforcement of the Act and two opposed. Each of your assertions should be supported by
evidence (and approximately a paragraph in length)
