Fingerprint mutilation has become more widespread recently. What is the purpose of fingerprint mutilation? Does it work? How can people mutilate their

fingerprints? What is the outcome? Do you think it can be successful?  Are there easier ways to conceal our identity?  Are other methods successful?

Cameron Willingham was executed in Texas in 2004 after being convicted in the fire death of his three daughters in 1991. In 2008, the Texas Forensic Science

Commission started to investigate Willingham’s case, including the examination that the fire was set intentionally. What were the commissions findings? Should

Willingham have been executed? What happened after the execution?  Were politics involved? How this type of incident be stopped in the future?

Connecticut Crime Labs are requesting that law enforcement agencies submit less evidence – as their labs have a huge backlog of evidence.  With forensic evidence

collection being in the forefront of prime time television, law enforcement agencies have begun to collect more evidence than in the past and therefore requesting more

testing be completed on the evidence.  Requests of the lab for DNA testing went from 250 cases in 2006 to 3,900 last year.  With budget cuts and attrition rates, the

lab is also down personnel to complete the testing.  Without hiring more employees, the lab would only be able to complete testing in felony cases.  A few weeks ago,

evidence was returned to local police departments untested – with some evidence from violent crimes.

criminal justice system are affected by the delay in forensic testing?  What can be done about this problem without providing the agencies with more money?
