Depictions of Race in Children’s Books

Instructions: In a 4-5 page reflection paper, provide examples of both manifest and latent content in the children’s books you reviewed. Describe any [racial] themes that emerged. Include your coding scheme and table as an appendix. Finally, reflect upon the data/methods of conducting a content analysis. If you were to conduct a larger research project using this data set, what research questions would you ask? How would you code the children’s books? What difficulties might you encounter? How would you link your proposed project to the course readings and theories on childhood? How do the messages in these books support other tools of socialization, such as messages from schools, families, or religion?
This is a confusing project so I had to ask the professor many questions. Please ask me any questions you have and I will respond ASAP. This is a list of the children’s books to evaluate: Mixed Me by Tayee Diggs, Rosie Revere Engineer by Andrea Beaty, Black is Brown is Tan by Arnold Adoff, I am a Big Sister by Caroline Jayne Church, All Families are Special by Norma Simon, Amelia Bedelia Sleeps Over by Herman Parish, I am a Big Brother by Caroline Sayne Church, Roland Humphrey is Wearing a What? by Eileen Kierman-Johnson, What Baby Needs by William Sears, Amazing You! by Dr. Gail Saltz.
You will not need any additional sources. I tallied every depiction of race in the books and will upload a chart you can reference. You don’t have to copy and paste the chart, I will do that after. You also do not need to include a reference page.
Please contact me within 24 hours if you can not do the paper for whatever reason.
