◦N. Katherine Hayles wrote her essay, “Electronic Literature: What is It?,” in 2007. Since then, the possibilities for electronic literature have expanded. As we saw in Jim Brown’s lecture, Electronic Literature Volume 3 contains a “reading glove,” poetry that displays only when you scream, and a holographic pop-up book. Do these new forms of electronic literature force us to revise Hayles’ definition of electronic literature? Which aspects of her argument still hold up and what would you add to make her essay more relevant today?
