ETHNOGRAPHIC ESSAY

ETHNOGRAPHIC ESSAY
You must provide transcripts or recorded files of your interviews. You will post them to Blackboard with your essay.

You will conduct a research driven essay that synthesizes the ethnographic groups contained within this campus and write an analytical essay that compares and contrasts the types of TV shows your family and friends watch. You must interview a minimum of 4 people.

Questions to consider in order to form your analytical argument:

• What does each person’s television tastes and aesthetics reveal about them?
• What are the common likes and dislikes of your group?
• Why do they watch TV, or, if they don’t, why not?
• Where do they most often watch TV?
• How are they watching TV? Through the computer or through an actual television set, or both?

With every question, too, always ask “why?” Investigate and discuss what factors may contribute to each person’s choice in television preferences.

Consider observing them watching TV as well in order to add to the overall investigation. Examine:

• How do they watch TV? Sitting? Lying down?
• Do they always eat while watching TV?
• What do they do while watching TV? Do they exercise? Do Homework? Watch intently?

The purpose of this essay is to investigate and discuss what factors may contribute to each person’s choice in television preferences and their TV habits. You want to discuss what these TV habits and preferences reveal about the individual personalities and what these aspects reveal about the group as a whole.
