Exegesis
Do you agree with the Ontario government’s HPV vaccination program? Why or why not?
Your first paper should have the following structure:
First, give a very short (two or four sentences) introductory paragraph that includes a clear thesis statement as the first sentence of your paragraph. Your thesis statement should read: “In this essay, I will argue…” In the rest of the paragraph, tell your reader what you will be doing in your essay. Although the first paper will only be an exegesis piece, please consider what you will argue and what you will say.
Second, clearly articulate all the facts of the debate that are relevant to your thesis and critically summarize the parts of the author’s or authors’ arguments that will be important for your essay as you develop your argument in the second and final papers. For this paper, limit yourself to the readings specifically assigned for these essays (i.e., the ones on vaccination and HPV vaccination). Make sure to define terms that will be key to your essay
Finally, according the the Oxford English Dictionary, the etymology of the word ‘exegesis’ comes from the ancient Greek to mean to give a “statement, narrative, explanation, interpretation”. Again, pull ideas together in your analysis of the literature in such a way that you’re not merely regurgitating what’s in the readings for the assignment, but present the information in a reshaped and logical form that will lead to the positive articulation.
