Health Policy DB1

DQ 1: In recent news, heated debate among lawmakers persists regarding the condition of the current Veteran’s Administration (VA) and its role to provide significantly better health care and shorter wait times for this growing population segment. Because many of our Veterans require both physical and psychological attention (primarily related to PTSD), discuss how state and national policies should adapt now and in the future toward helping our Vets better assimilate back into society–body, mind, and spirit. Do you advocate for privatization of the VA system or any social entitlement, such as Medicare or Medicaid as a method for improvement? Explain. Due: Initial Post by Wednesday, Peer Post(s) by Sunday of Unit 1. Regarding the assignment for this week—please note that I will be viewing this one as an opinion piece—meaning, that you don’t really need to conduct any in-depth research (unless you just wish to), but here I am looking to get to know you better, and determine where you are on how the “ensemble” within healthcare facilities function—and if the presence of more policy makes things better. There are no right or wrong answers—so shout them out—opine! The common theme of this course is “finding balance,” so remember this theme in all writing assignments and discussions. Today’s health care system is out of balance—perhaps due to too much regulation, oversight, internal and external forces that are pushing-pulling, and lost in the chaos are relationships with your administrator colleagues—and in turn, they may be failing to fully recognize your many contributions to the common objective of the hospital/facility—safe and successful patient care. Do enjoy this first little exercise—and don’t be shy.
