You are required to visit the 15 galleries at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, called “Islamic Art” on the museum’s website but in the museum itself labelled “Art of the Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, and Later South Asia.” You are then required to write six pages (standard double-spaced format) about your visit, responding to one of the two questions posed below, and including with your submission proof of your visit to the museum, either a selfie taken there or giving your Graduate Student Teacher your receipt from museum admission. The two questions between which you are to choose are as follows:
A. Why are the galleries given such a long and complicated label in the museum, especially when the Met website simply calls them “Islamic Art”? What is at issue here? Is all the art “Islamic”? Are there other reasons, besides religion, for grouping all this art together? Discuss.

Some ideas for central theme: because islam is a religion that influences many cultures and many modern day countries that the art they have during certain times of history that it is deeply influenced but because they are modern day countries they are classified more specifically thus the name Arab lands turkey, etc.
