Read Diary of a Very Bad Year: Confessions of a Hedge Fund Manager. As you read, remember that the interviews contained in the book are primary sources. Think carefully about what you know about the sources of information in the book. Write an essay of at least 1,500 words exploring some of the main ideas or concepts in the book, and discussing how you respond to them differently given the nature of the source. What kind of authority does that information have? What advantages, disadvantages, complications, follow from the nature of the source?
In addition to being well organized and well written, a strong essay will demonstrate good understanding of (at least some important elements of) the financial crisis as it is described in the book by synthesizing various details and ideas into a coherent analysis; it will also demonstrate historical thinking by engaging with the text as a primary source.
