HTM 110 INTRODUCTION TO HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
PROJECT ASSIGNMENT (25%)

For HTM 110 Project Assignment, you have three options to choose from. Please see the below list for possible topics.

1. Interview:
Students are expected to conduct an interview with an industry professional (Either Hotel, Restaurant or Travel & Tourism, Meeting / Events) at the management level and prepare a 2-3 page double space written report. Try to ask 4-5 Core questions. Interview questions may include but not limited to:
• Some background information related to the education of the professional.
• How their education is related to their profession?
• What are the challenges they face in today’s hospitality industry?
• What would they recommend you to pursue a successful career in the Hospitality Industry?
• What are the characteristics they look for when they are hiring people?
* Get instructors approval with the list of questions before you complete the assignment. Failure to follow guidelines may result with losing points.

2. Article Review:
Students are expected to find an article from a scholarly journal, newspaper or industry magazine (NOT AN INTERNET BASED ARTICLE – FROM THE LIBRARY or OTHER SOURCES get instructors approval) related to new trends in foodservice industry, lodging or travel & tourism industry. Students will turn in a 2-3 page double-space written report (along with the copy of the original source) including:
• A one 6-7 line paragraph summary of the article.
• Possible outcomes of that particular trend.
• How will such a trend affect the development of the industry?
• Do you agree or disagree with the article?
• Learning Experience (How will you use this knowledge in the future)
• What may be the implications of that trend in the future

3. Field Trip / Guided Discovery:
Students are expected to attend a field trip or conduct a guided discovery to a foodservice establishment or lodging operation or attend an event such as trade fair, exhibition, meeting etc. (You may also combine Project Option #1 and Option #3 if you want to become more creative.) Each student is expected to prepare a 2-3 page double space written report based on their experiences. The written report should include:

• Name of the operation / Event
• Date, time, location
• Picture or brochure of the actual location.
• Daily flow of the operation: For Example if it’s a restaurant visit; how and where the food is being prepared and how it’s brought to our tables.
• For Lodging: For example how is the Guest Check-In process working?
• For an Event: Activities?
• Describe at least two things you learned during your visits.
