Some mythical heroes experience katabasis, descent into the underworld, and return to the living. Both Odysseus and
Aeneas travel to the underworld and receive important information while there to aid them in their quest.
Compare and contrast these two accounts. Some questions to consider: How does each hero access the underworld? What
rituals, if any, must they perform to communicate with the dead? What information do the individual passages provide
about the ancient mental geography of the underworld?
