As a new supervisor or HR professional your primary role in the organization will be in performing operational HR functions. You have decided that you need a better understanding of the operational role of HRM (presented in chapter one and discussed in the introductory video), what skills may be needed, and what resources are available to assist you with skill development and performing operational HR functions.

Assignment Response, provide a written response to the following:

Essay (40% of grade)

Describe the operational role of HRM professionals, what skills may be needed and why. Inform your response with information from the required readings (Mathis, Jackson, & Valentine, 2014) and at least one other source. Paraphrase only, no direct quotes. Properly cite and reference in APA all sources of information. Because this is an introductory assignment this response should be 250 to 400 words in length. If you do not yet have your required textbook, you can use other sources of credible information; however, be sure to send me an email indicating that you do not have your textbook to avoid point deductions for failing to cite the required text book.

Resources (35% of grade)

Investigate the shrm.org, HR.com, and hrci.org web sites and identify a total of three resources (at least one from each web site) that you believe would assist you in developing human resource management skills identified in your response to the first question. Provide a brief summary of each resource as well as a link to the resource, correct APA citation, and references. This response should be 50 to 100 words in length per resource (4 to 8 lines of text).

Here is an example:

The Texas Workforce Commission’s Labor Market Information resource provides industry information and analysis pertaining to the workforce. This resource helps facilitate job seekers to locate job opportunities, but also allows free recruitment for employers. This resource also depicts Texas workforce trends such as the labor market outlook and predicted wage trends (Texas Workforce Commission, 2015). This can help employers anticipate labor market changes that may impact recruiting and retention. Texas Hydraulics (the employer from a hypethetical senario provided in a future assignment) can use this information to evaluate causes of turnover.
