Metaphor for Organisational Design and Organisational Improvement.

Metaphor for Organisational Design and Organisational Improvement.

Project description
INSTRUCTION FOR QUESTION 1:

Metaphors are a way for us to understand and categorise complex phenomena for further analysis. Morgan (2006; 2011) provides a number of metaphors to assist researchers in evaluating and

developing new theories regarding organisational design. Not every metaphor Morgan explains is perfect, and he has received critiques of his categories (Morgan, 2011). However, each metaphor

provides a general view of organisations that can be a foundation for further exploration and research. Morgan did not create an exhaustive list of metaphors and suggests that there are

additional metaphors that have not yet been developed (Morgan, 2011).

This Individual Assignment will contribute to Part II of your Final Project, which requires you to develop your own metaphor in relation to organisational design.
To prepare for this Individual Assignment:
 Review the readings for this unit.
 Consider the metaphors proposed by Morgan (2006; 2011) and how you can
expand upon his list with a new metaphor.

To complete this Individual Assignment:
 Produce and analyse a new metaphor for organisational design.
 Analyse the potential benefits and drawbacks of your new metaphor in relation to HRM.
 Explain the possibilities for theoretical development that may stem from your newly
developed metaphor.

Also, the assignment should have, introduction, subheadings, conclusion etc.

INSTRUCTION FOR QUESTION 2:
The readings for this unit are focused on expanding your knowledge of different types of organisations and how they have, or have not, evolved in terms of design and structure. Additionally,

the readings in this unit introduce you to how organisational design can be improved through tools and models that specifically address design issues and change management. Many of these

approaches help organisations work with a changing world of work as well as help HR professionals address important issues of design, risk management and sustainability.

As you read through the articles, you may have assembled thoughts and ideas regarding organisations that you know well and how they can be improved through the ideas presented in this

unit. This Shared Activity will help you convey your thoughts concerning how organisations can progress and more effectively address the issues of design, risk management and sustainability.

To prepare for this Shared Activity:
 Review the reading for this unit.
 Think of an organisation that you know well and what organisational design exists at
this workplace.

To complete this Shared Activity:
 In your initial posting, critically analyse the organisational design of a workplace that you
know well and describe how this workplace has evolved in its organisational design.
 Provide suggestions for improving the design of this organisation and critically analyse
selected approaches an HR professional could use to ensure the organisation’s design enhances
its approach to risk management and sustainability.
 Integrate relevant course readings, theories and your professional experiences into your post
and remember to cite your sources using the Harvard format.
