ASSE 2111: Learning Outcome Assessment I
Assignment: ePortfolio
OVERVIEW
The ASSE 2111 ePortfolio assignment incorporates the course’s critical thinking, selfassessment, and technology themes into constructing a web-based, digital portfolio project.
Starting from a template or their own web page design, students will create a comprehensive
overview of their academic experiences and projects as a PMU student worthy of attention
from recruiters, HR departments, and other professionals in their chosen field. The ePortfolio
focuses on presenting and critiquing distinct works you have completed—which are termed
“artifacts”—and assessing these artifacts in light of PMU’s six core competencies. These
competencies are communication, critical thinking, technological skills, professional
development, teamwork, and leadership.
REQUIREMENTS
The required output for this assignment is a complete, updated ePortfolio, created and
maintained using WordPress—a powerful, intuitive, and widely-used web development
platform—and other appropriate web technologies.
Students are required to submit their artifact content by an initial deadline in Week 10 for
artifact content, with the complete project due in Week 12. This series of deadlines will
enable your ePortfolio to be evaluated earlier on and to make the necessary changes if
needed. Students who fail to submit their work at these times will be subjected to points
deduction that will affect their overall ePortfolio marks.
Content
1. Home Page: A home page is required; it will include a brief introduction to the
student’s ePortfolio. This introduction will include 1) a biographical paragraph about
the student, and 2) an overview of the student’s major as well as a description of how
they determined this course of study.
2. Core Competencies: The completed ePortfolio must include two artifacts for each of
PMU’s six core competencies—a total of 12 artifacts. Your artifact content must
clearly and definitively match the definition and related skills for each competency.
In addition to writing an introduction for each of the six core competencies,
content for each artifact must include the following two paragraphs:
a. Introduction: Your introduction must be specific and detailed while answering
three questions: 1) What is the artifact? 2) Why was the artifact selected to
represent the competency? and 3) What skills used in developing that artifact
relate to the competency?
b. Self-Assessment (Reflection): The second part of your artifact review consists of
self-assessment, expressing and critiquing the student’s personal experiences
while creating the artifact. These reflections must answer the following questions:
1) What was learned from the project? 2) What would be done differently if the
project were repeated? and 3) What advice would the student give to others
completing a similar project?
3. Resume: Your ePortfolio will include a separate page with your complete, up to date,
professionally formatted, and mistake-free resume.
4. Professional Goals: The ePortfolio will include a two-part statement of your
professional and academic goals. Like the resume, this statement is a professional
document and is expected to be error-free.
5. Design: The ASSE 2111 ePortfolio must follow accepted standards for structure,
functionality, and design on the web. Using skills gained in this course’s
accompanying lab section, students will build on an existing WordPress design
template (called a ‘theme’), or design their own. At an absolute minimum, the final
portfolio is required to show effective shifts in colors, text, fonts, structure, imagery,
buttons, and links from the initial template on which the student’s work is based.
Other Details
o Your ePortfolio will be based on a WordPress theme, but must be your own
creation and produced for this assignment.
o All of your materials must follow basic web standards and conventions for
organization, design, and accessibility.
o The lab section of this course will spend a significant amount of time teaching
students the skills to effectively use WordPress and other appropriate software
packages.
RESOURCES
WordPress tutorials and other instructional resources are available from the course’s lab
instructor. Also speak with the lab instructor about software acquisition and hardware
requirements. Helpful guides, PMU core competency information, and other resources are
available on the course’s Blackboard site within the Assignments and Lab Materials sections.
Web Templates and Design Examples
 The classroom and lab instructors for ASSE 2111 will guide you in choosing a design
theme for your WordPress site, thousands of which are available free online.
 You can also view content examples in the lab completed by ASSE 2111 students
during previous semesters. Note that these examples are not perfect: They should

serve as a guide for ideas and your own work, not as a standard to copy
uncritically.

ePortfolio web server.
Due Dates: Check on the submission link
Submission: Blackboard > Assignments > ePortfolio
File Name: Include your last name, ID number, and the assignment in all file
names.
Late and Non-Functional Assignments
 Students whose website is non-functional, doesn’t open, or missing critical files after
submission will receive 0% as their grade for this project. Make sure before
submitting (that is, test it out!) that all necessary materials for your ePortfolio are
saved and structured properly, and that your site is completely functional.
 Late assignments will receive 50% off, as per the syllabus. Late means posted
anytime after the due date and time. Assignments more than three days late will not be
accepted, for any reason.
 There are NO exceptions to these rules.

Students will be evaluated not only for completeness, design, and functionality, but also
on the quality of their work.

competencies, resume, and goals statement
Design 10 Quality, consistency, and creativity of graphics, layout, fonts, icons,
etcetera.
Functionality 5 Site setup and structure, plugins, links, embedded media

TOTAL 50 [Divide by 2 to get final score out of 25%.]
PREPARING FOR ASSESSMENT II
Note that all PMU students also are required to complete ASSE 3211, Learning Outcome
Assessment II, before being graduated by the university. During Assessment II, students will
continue developing their ePortfolio, starting from their work during Assessment I. For this
reason, it is required that all students save a copy of their Assessment I work at the end
of their semester. Students who fail to save their Assessment I work will be forced to start
their ePortfolio over again during Assessment II.
