1. What is the difference between a necessary being and a contingent being, and why would there be an
infinite succession of beings if there were no necessary being?

2. What arguments appear to show that God does NOT exist? State the argument from motion (one of
Aguina’s arguments that God DOES exist) in premise-and-conclusion format. Evaluate the validity and
truth of the argument.

3. What contributions did Friedrich-Schleiermacher and Rudolf Otto make to the study of religious
experience?

4. Based on Elie Wiesel’s essay “Night”, which is about the treatment of Jewish prisoners at the
Auschwitz concentration camp, try to give a satisfactory answer to his question, “How could it be
possible for them (Nazi’s) to burn people, children, and for the world to keep silent?” Interpret the
meaning of the comment “He is hanging here on this gallows” that Wiesel makes silently in response to
the question “Where is God now?”
