Polypharmacy and its potential effects in elderly patients.
In this discussion forum you will begin the process of selecting your concept for the Concept Analysis paper. The purpose of the discussion is to share your ideas with your classmates and to begin to refine your concept based on the suggestions and feedback you receive from both your peers and the faculty. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Master’s Essentials and Doctoral Essentials firmly establish that an expected competency of both graduate levels of study is the ability to reduce the current research/clinical practice gap that presently exists (AACN, 2011; AACN, 2006). In other words, graduates are expected to facilitate the translation of evidence into practice.
To do this effectively, Advance Practice Nurses must fully understand the components of both research and theory development. Concepts, as discussed in the Resources, are the building blocks of theory; they are also “labels” that apply to all phenomena. Concept Analysis is recognized as one way to contribute to the body of Nursing knowledge.
So now your task is to identify a concept that relates to your Phenomenon of Interest. To begin this process, it is often helpful to examine your POI “anew”. What made you select this overall topic? What about this phenomenon matters to you the most? How would you categorize the POI? What do you immediately think about when the POI is mentioned?
If you are still at a loss, do a quick literature search (or better yet, re-examine the literature you pulled for your POI paper). What common threads do you find? These will most likely be potential concepts you can explore.
The purpose of the discussion is to get your ideas out there…and let’s all see what comes back! You are going to be helping each other here. The faculty will be present and will guide along the conversation when needed, but you are each other’s primary support here.
The initial post will require that you:
1. State your Phenomenon of Interest
2. Identify at least 3 potential concepts that relate to your POI. Include a brief statement for each identified concept that lets your peers know why you chose that particular concept to bring forward for review.
3. Identify concerns you may have about going forward and invite your classmates into the discussion to help you refine and finalize your choice of concept.
