Each section requires at least three sentences, but not more than a long paragraph per item. You can always include a reference.
1. Definition: What is it? (Restating the definition verbatim is OK, as is putting it into your own words.)
2. Why is this important? What is going on?, or How does this work? or also if it applies; Where does it occur?
3. Elaboration: Lets hear more on this…. details, examples, case studies, expert opinions, controversies, related items, references etc. (Choose to write on a maximum of one or two of of these.)
4. Context: How does this apply, to you or someone else personally, or in the global, national, regional, community politics, or in your local geographical contexts?
This process will help you in your exploration assignments, as well as help familiarize yourself with the components of the text.
For this chapter the Five (5) concepts I want you to write on are:
From Chapter 9: 1. green house effect, 2. www.NOAA.gov 3. www.ipcc.ch Note in these cases I want you to peruse their offerings and highlight what they are chartered to do and give an example of their efforts and how it effects you.
From Chapter 10: 1. Elaborate on one example of current air quality problems 2. Select one success story in controlling pollution in a developing country.
Most of these are highlighted in the text or appear on the pages with the red border in your text. They also appear in the Glossary and Index of the book. Make sure to do all four parts of the analysis for each concept for full credit.
