Should NCAA athletes get paid

NCAA

What is worse than working hard at something and helping make millions of dollars towards someone? That is correct, not being paid for what you helped them achieve. The National Collegiate Athletic Association, better known as NCAA raked in almost 1 billion dollars in 2014 (sports) and how much did the athletes (the ones who make the money come in) receive? That is correct again, nothing. NCAA was founded in 1906. Prior to being founded, in the year 1905 football was close to being put to an end because in 1905 alone 18 college and amateur players died during games (Treadway). The NCAA was founded with the purpose to promote safety standards, like to prevent death on the field (Treadway). But now it is raking in millions of dollars and seems to be more worried about ensuring that student athletes are not receiving “impermissible benefits” (compensation) for playing sports rather then to promote safety (Treadway). Is is fair to say that some of that revenue they are bringing in should be distributed to at least some of the student athletes. Student athletes are the ones making people spend money to be able to watch the game. They are also the ones risking their body and mental health to make colligate sports happen. NCAA athletes should be paid, not all of them but at least the ones that get to the pinnacle of theirsport. NCAA athletes should be paid from 3000 to 5000 dollars if they win the national championship in the sport they are in.
