a) Scenario/Tasks

In order to become a successful coach it is important to develop a range of observation skills that will identify areas that can be

coached in order to improve performance. Successful coaches will have a clear insight into the areas that are affecting team or

individual cohesion and can quickly implement a range of strategies.

Task

Students are required to deliver a presentation (15-20 minutes) on a type of analysis that can be used to gauge or monitor performance.

This can include:

Notational analysis
Observational Analysis
Statistical analysis
Position specific analysis
Player analysis

Once you have identified your preferred analysis tool, you are required to demonstrate it to the audience (using forms of ICT)

highlighting it’s strengths, weaknesses and limitations and in particular its usefulness to the sports coach.

b) Learning Outcomes

Developed their coaching performance: ability to observe individual and group performance, quality of performance.
Developed their coaching analysis and evaluation: self-evaluation, observation and interpretation.

c) Principal Objectives:

To understand the range of performance analysis opportunities available to sport coaches.
To distinguish between positive and negative aspects of analysis in different sporting situations
To implement analysis in a specific environment, highlighting its worth to a coach/team/performer.
