In all cases, the essay topic is set up as an unnamed developing world with a particular issue to tackle. Q1 deals with the mass versus alternative tourism debate;

1.ESSAY QUESTION: Offer critical advice to members of a fictional village council. They are from a country in the developing world, and include village elders, tourism business owners and the people who live near to the beach (a popular tourist attraction). They are preparing a new sustainable tourism development plan for the village and need to decide whether to support mass tourism, alternative tourism, or a combination of the two. You should support your advice with evidence and examples from at least one developing world country from the options below. A combination of evidence and examples from both examples provided is also permitted.

1.Kenya (Masaai Mara)
2.Zambia (South Luangwa National Park)

Note: Q1 mentions a fictional village council for a beach community. It is perfectly acceptable to use examples from countries with safari-type tourism as examples of good and bad practice. The safari reserve or national park can be used as broadly comparable to a beach in that the tourism is based on a single natural landscape and the wildlife which inhabits it.

Assessment Criteria:
The coursework and examination is assessed according to the following criteria:
1. Knowledge and understanding of ideas and concepts associated with sustainable tourism
2. Evidence of wider reading and independent research
3. Quality and relevance of the arguments made
4. Presentation (including proper use of English and referencing)
