Task 1 lo1.3
A Three Phase (400 V) star connected stator – 50 Hz alternator supplies a balanced delta –connected load. Each phase of the load consists of a coil of resistance 15Ω and inductance 36mH, and the phase voltage generated by the alternator is 231V.
• Provide an appropriate drawing showing alternator connections and Delta connected load, identify Line Voltages – and currents and also phase voltages and currents.
Calculate:
• The phase and line currents
• The load power factor
• The power delivered to the load.

Task 4
A motor coil of resistance 330Ω and inductance 0.25H is connected in series with a 10μF capacitor.
This circuit is connected across a 100 V, 80 Hz supply.

 Provide an appropriate drawing showing connections to the three components,
identify and label voltages and supply current.
 Draw a complete phasor/vector diagram, showing VL – VC – VR – V coil- (VC – VL) and current.
 Calculate the circuit current
 The voltage across the coil and the capacitor
 The circuit phase angle and power factor
 The power dissipated
