Understanding consumers and meeting their needs and wants is fundamental to marketing strategy.
This assessment requires you to find out what makes consumers tick. In particular, the purpose of
Assessment Two is to have you examine some primary and secondary data about consumers’
behaviour, compare that to theory and then use this knowledge to help a small business provide a
better product to their customers.
However, having the answer for the business isn’t enough, in marketing is all about being able to
communicate your ideas to specific audiences. The second purpose of Assessment Two is to help you
practise a specific style of communication, namely a presentation. As students you need to develop
your presentation skills as it is one of the most common ways of communicating in business. There are
many technological aids that can help a presenter so it is important to have a good understanding on
how technology can help you. The technological tool for this assessment is power point.
We know that
there may be a wide range of experiences with this technology in the cohort; some of you may have
used this tool many times, others of you may have seen them, but never created one yourself. To help
ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to understand and utilise the functions of this
technology an Adobe Connect session will be held (time to be scheduled and announced through
Interact) that will take your through the steps of creating a power point showing how to use the
functions. If you cannot make the scheduled time, don’t worry, as the session will be recorded and
available for viewing at a later time.

to prepare and present a ( 5-7) minute power point presentation that

addresses the follow problem:
Describe the influence of group references on consumers’ behaviour and make
recommendations to help 9inety 2wo (a restaurant) provide a better service.
You need to create a presentation as if you were going to deliver it to a class, but because you are
unable to present in person you will need to use the voice-over recording function of power point. The
voice over function allows you to record your presentation speech. Your assessment will be viewed
online by your marker (not printed out) so you can include animations, links to other sources (i.e.
multimedia such as you tube clips etc).
You also need to complete the Self-Reflection sheet- you can do this orally too. This sheet is about
your own personal activity to help you think about your process of developing an assessment. A copy
of this sheet is located on your Interact site and your reflections should be included on your last slide
of your presentation.
Step one- Case study information
Watch the case study videos on 9inety 2wo as the owners talk about their understanding of consumer
behaviour. The videos are located in the Resources folder and are also linked in the consumer
behaviour module. The videos only go for a few minutes each. Watching the videos will give you a
good sense of the business and how it operates. In addition, you need to know about 9inety 2wo to
help you make appropriate recommendations
